Champion of Innovation and Change

Leading change is the role with which we are all probably most familiar when we think of what leaders do. In this seminar, we introduce you to the use of a practical framework for leading change – and more specifically, for engaging others to take action as you and they work collectively on initiatives for change at work and in your communities. It is our hope that the framework will help you to build or strengthen your relationships with your partners, your staff and the other members of your team or community on whose energies and enthusiasm you will rely as you champion the innovations and changes that are of significant importance to your group or your community.

Our framework for leading innovation and change is first a tool for reflection to help you engage your own enthusiasm and dedication to champion the initiatives or changes you deem important. Second, it is a tool to help you diagnose, plan, and communicate with the members of your team or group. During the course of the seminar, you will have the opportunity to apply the framework to a current initiative or change that you think needs to occur in your environment, and develop clearly defined options for your own next steps and the next steps of your partners. The application of the framework will compel you to rigorously and thoroughly explain the context for the change, provide a detailed view of the future that you envision when the change is in place, and to articulate the immediate commitments that you will both make and ask your team or group to make in moving your initiative forward.

Finally, the framework is designed for you to use as a tool to prompt deliberative conversation, distribute ownership and collaborate. It is our hope that you will use it to build stronger relationships with your partners by engaging them in exchanging ideas, sharing ownership, taking responsibility for success, and committing to act collectively to making meaningful contributions in the world around you.

Outcomes of Champion of Innovation and Change

You, as a participant, will learn a practical framework to:

  • Engage your own enthusiasm and dedicate yourself to lead innovation and change
  • Diagnose and anticipate obstacles, and plan the actions that you will need to take to champion the innovation or change
  • Strengthen relationships and engage the enthusiasm of other members of your group or community to participate, serve, act and contribute to successful implementation
  • Communicate with others in ways that both allow them to understand and invite them to care about the innovation and change
